Life of Pi Summary
The novel life of pi starts in Pondicherry where they have a zoo. This is where Pi has been raised. Pi's first name is Piscine, which he is made fun of at school for having such a name. The children associate Piscine with pissing. Pi shows persistence by writing his name on the chalk board in every class room to make everyone call him Pi. Pi learns many different religions and sticks with them all instead of just choosing one. Pi's father shows him how dangerous animals can be by taking a goat, tying it to a tiger's cage and watch as the goat gets devoured. The tigers name is Richard Parker. The family have to go to Canada for the zoo due to the political climate in India. The family and animals are on the ship and when they are asleep the a loud goes off to awaken Pi. Pi is then thrown into a life boat with a hyena, zebra, orangutan and Richard Parker (the tiger). The hyena eats the zebra, then goes on to kill the orangutan and the Richard Parker kills the hyena. Pi explains that he has been out on sea for 227 days and is surviving on the emergence food that was meant to last 3 days for 30 people, fish and turtles that he obtains. He goes on to train Richard Parker and they survive off each other. Furthermore Pi finally lands on mexico shore and is picked up by the people there and brought to a hospital and Richard Parker runs of into the wild. Two reporters come to meet with Pi so that he can share his story and the readers are then revealed a twist in the story.
